In an article entitled, "French's MP's reject controversial plan to crack down on illegal downloaders." (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/apr/09/france-illegal-downloads-state-surveillance) it explains that they had great idea's in store for cracking down, but not everyone approved, and found way's to argue for the better.
First, illegal downloading is something that the government here, in the US, have been cracking down on for awhile now, and as shown it's hard. However, it seems like the French are taking a different approach and looking towards a state surveillance system, the first in the world, as explained.
Why not try it? Downloading illegally is only going to get worse and worse as people find ways around government blocking systems. Maybe this approach will actually work. And even though the arguement, which won, was that it could lead to people who weren't actually doing anything wrong, such as getting an employer, whose staff go under their noses and downloading illegally. But then isn't just a matter for figuring out which computer is doing it?
It just doesn't make that so many places around have this problem in the music world, and yet a new plan get's shut down and is not even tried to see if it works. |

This was a good . You stayed on topic with a good source of evidence that helped explain it better. I wanted more on how you would be willing to try it, as in just France? or maybe in America too? The thought of getting your internet turned off is better than getting a bill for $300 a song.
However, it raises a lot of questions. How long would the internet be shut off for, and there's a great deal of ignorant people that don't know when they're downloading illegally. It would seem a bit brutal if it were indefinite.
These are all important issues that should be addressed for such a punishment. |
